Dorothy Wightman is an internationally reknowned interior designer, based in Lupton, near Kirkby Lonsdale. With a reputation for creating beautiful bespoke interiors, what is maybe less well known is that Dorothy’s showroom also stocks talented British craftspeople and artists. If like me, you have driven past on the busy A65 thinking that this place is just an interiors showroom, think again.
Housed in an old barn, the showroom feels cavernous and dark, but the collections are beautifully curated against black lined shelving which successfully throws out the art within the pieces. In my opinion, the showroom is a perfect blend of texture, colour and shapes – everything I need to give me inspiration and make me covet the products.
Undiscovered treasure in the form of handmade ceramics, beautiful edgy unique dolls (perfect gifts for early teenagers), Christmas decorations, and fun cushions are a world away from the homogenized High Street.
Need any further persuasion that you should drop into Dorothy’s gorgeous showroom….. The Plough at Lupton is a neighbour and serves some of the most delicious food around.
