Cobalt Boiled Wool

£6.75£27.00

A punchy but not harsh bright blue.

Boiled wool with a perfect weight and drape for garments constructed with raw edge methods. Because of the finishing process the wool can be left with unfinished edges – think of it as felt for the dressmaker – but with much more durable qualities. Boiled wool has natural stretch for ease of wearing, it is breathable  and even thermoregulatory because of the natural fibres and the loft of the fabric.

Because boiled wool doesn’t need hemming the fabric usage is highly economical. You might want to think through whether you like the feeling of wool against your skin though – order a swatch if weight, handle or colour matching is essential.

Sarah is a big fan of boiled wool and we have samples made in ALL the following styles!  Verona JacketLyon JacketAmara VestSydney JacketBerlin JacketLondon Coat and Brooklyn Coat Patterns – by Tessuti. Plus the classic Courage – it only takes 75cm in boiled wool up to a size 18!

Probably not for the beginner because of the cost, the actual process of sewing with boiled wool is fast and satisfying. I would advise using a rotary cutter and mat for any straight edges because these will be visible on many of the Tessuti designs. If you don’t have a mat, use long fluid cuts with the full length of your scissor blades. A chalk marker would also be very useful with these projects.

Width 140cm/56″

Weight 415gsm

Composition 100% Wool – Oeko-tex certified

Care – Ideally don’t wash – sponge surface clean or dry clean. However if you do need to, wash as wool – A gentle cold-to-lukewarm bath (an actual bath would be good where it can spread out and not need moving about much) with a specific wool wash. Avoid agitation or wringing. Carefully rinse and roll and press in a towel to remove excess water.

All quantities will be cut as a continuous length – i.e ordering a  half metre and a quarter metre will mean you receive a continuous 75cm piece.
