For The Love Of Lace

By 20th May 2014No Comments

Lace has been a key player in the fashion & interiors world for a few seasons now and doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Lace was the most tweeted word from the 2014 catwalks with big fashion names  all embracing lace in their own way.

House of Holland used large lace floral cut outs and appliqued them on to bold colours whereas Oscar de la Renta’s catwalk used lace as inserts and trimmings.

Here at CoolCrafting, we have been thoroughly inspired to put a little more lace in our lives and have come up with a few ideas to utilise the gorgeous laces that we have in our haberdashery heaven. However, this trend doesn’t need to come with a thousand pound price tag  and can be recreated at home with either vintage or modern laces.

We love the idea of using lace to add length to a skirt or dress.

Of course lace doesn’t have to be dressy. By it’s nature, lace can be trimmed to the shaped emblems it holds, creating inserts to apply to your cut off shorts.

Lace can be used to create patterns by spraying through it onto a notebook to make your shopping lists a little more romantic, or impress the lace onto airdrying clay to make pretty patterns.

The word “lace” is derived from the Latin “laceum” meaning to entice or ensnare. Not only does this fit its appearance but also its appeal. Lace conjures up images of romance and femininity, it can be soft and childlike, graphic and fashion forward. Lace has the ability to be seductive, playful and edgy.
